Each of us, at our core, has seven centers of vital energy called chakras. Life energy flows into us and through us through these whirlpools of power. When these seven chakras are in harmony within us, we find our body, mind and spirit in harmony with the world around us. Chakra One: The Root Chakra
	Earth, physical identity, self-preservation Located at the base of the spine, the Root Chakra is the ground of vibrant, sustainable life. Think of it as the foundation; the source of life energy and our connection to our bodies and the physical plane. Ideally, this chakra brings us health, prosperity, security and dynamic presence. The color red activates this chakra—representing courage, passion and, at times, anger.


Chakra Two: The Sacral Chakra
	Water, emotional identity, self-gratification The Sacral Chakra is located in the abdomen, lower back and sexual organs. This is the center of our physical health and wellbeing. It connects us to others through feeling, desire, sensation and movement. Orange activates it—the color of vital energy that stimulates physical energy in the body.


Chakra Three: The Power Chakra
	Fire, ego identity and self-definition Known as the Power Chakra, this source of identity and aspiration is located in the solar plexus. It rules our personal power, will, autonomy, self-worth and confidence. Yellow is its color—the optimistic color that lifts the spirit and gives hope and a sense of ease and lightness.


Chakra Four: The Heart Chakra
	Air, social identity, self-acceptance Mending the heart is the basis for all spiritual healing. The Heart Chakra is the source of love. This fourth chakra allows us to love deeply, feel compassion and have a deep sense of peace and centeredness. Its color is green, which brings balance, soothes the nerves and acts as a tonic.


Chakra Five: The Throat Chakra
	Sound, creative identity, self-expression The Throat Chakra is linked to communication and creativity. It gives us the power to express ourselves—our most deeply human attribute. Its color is blue, evoking creativity.


Chakra Six: The Brow Chakra
	Light, archetypal identity, oriented to self-reflection The Brow Chakra is intrinsic to the act of seeing, both physically and intuitively. It supplies energy to all our senses. Its color is indigo, which can unblock congested energy or emotions.


Chakra Seven: The Crown Chakra
	Thought, universal identity, self-knowledge The Crown Chakra is the height of consciousness as pure awareness. It is our connection to the greater world beyond. When perfected, this chakra brings us knowledge, wisdom, understanding, spiritual connection and bliss. Its colors—violet and white—evoke cosmic awareness. These colors can soothe pain and relieve tension in the body.
